Tip: Teacups. Teacup shapes have changed through the years. As a general rule, cups without handles are usually older than those with handles. The earliest tea sets were copies of Oriental ones, and since the Chinese drank only lukewarm tea, the cup could be gripped and no handle was necessary. In early sets only the coffee cups and chocolate cups had handles.
